چکیده

Lifelines and infrastructure systems are among the most critical operational components of an urban environment to ensure a minimum level post-earthquake economic societal functionality following major seismic events. The overall performance lifeline after September 19, 2017 Mw 7.1 Central Mexico earthquake was generally positive. extensive impact observed on fresh water supply network within City (CDMX), which resulted in temporary loss for nearly six million people, yet expedited repair work solutions limited severe interruption daily operations helped mitigate human suffering. road, railroad bridge networks were reported have experienced very damage. Less than dozen bridges indicated some damage areas affected by earthquake. Only few selected rail stations public transportation system (metro) temporarily closed up one month due structural electricity reestablished its full capacity four days. Several case studies regions ranging from epicenter (Puebla) presented this paper provide overview engineering success stories as well opportunities alike.

Kalman filter and Neural Network methods for detecting irregular variations of TEC around the time of powerful Mexico (Mw=8.2) earthquake of September 08, 2017

In 98 km SW of Tres Picos in Mexico (15.022°N, 93.899°W, 47.40 km depth) a powerful earthquake of Mw=8.2 took place at 04:49:19 UTC (LT=UTC-05:00) on September 8, 2017. In this study, using three standard, classical and intelligent methods including median, Kalman filter, and Neural Network, respectively, the GPS Total Electron Content (TEC) measurements of three months were surveyed to detect ...

Factors Contributing to the Catastrophe in Mexico City during the Earthquake of September 19 , 1985

The extensive damage to high-rise buildings in Mexico City during the September 19, 1985 earthquake is primarily due to the intensity of the ground shaking exceeding what was previously considered credible for the city by Mexican engineers. There were two major factors contributing to the catastrophe, resonance in the sediments of an ancient lake that once existed in the Valley of Mexico, and t...

Slip Distribution of the 19 September 1985 Michoacan , Mexico , Earthquake : near - Source and Teleseismic Constraints

We simultaneously invert the strong-motion velocity records and the longand intermediate-period teleseismic P waveforms of the 19 September 1985 Michoacan, Mexico, earthquake to recover the distribution of slip on the fault using a point-by-point constrained and stabilized, least-squares inversion method. A fault plane with strike fixed at 300 ° and dip fixed at 14 ° is placed in the region of ...

Did Anthropogenic Activities Trigger the 3 April 2017 Mw 6.5 Botswana Earthquake?

On 3 April 2017, a Mw 6.5 earthquake occurred in Botswana, representing the secondstrongest earthquake registered since 1949. Such an intraplate event occurred in a low seismic hazard area and was suspected to be an artificial earthquake induced by nearby anthropogenic activities (gas extraction). The possible relation between anthropogenic activities and the earthquake occurrence has been qual...
